RESPECT - 7 Green Flags to Look for in a Professional Dominatrix

Guidance from a Professional Dominatrix

Dominatrices will sometimes encounter pushback around Our screening and booking policies, which can often happen when prospective clients haven’t done the required research or risk assessment for the session they desire. This opposition can also appear when clients have sought professional services before but were misled, mishandled, or mistreated (in a not-fun, non-consensual manner). With My proprietary RESPECT framework, My goal is to shed light on 7 green flags to look for in a Professional Dominatrix when you’re ready to book your first session, and why, so you can avoid common pitfalls for femdom session clients.

And no, I did not initially plan on this list spelling out “RESPECT,” but I realized I had the letters “S-P-E-C-T” (out of order), and ran with My vision. Is it not perfectly fitting? My creative human brain > a.i!

1. Rigorous Screening & Booking Process

The reality of a professional domination session is that it is considered sex work, which is not decriminalized or legalized in most places, so most Pro Dommes are putting Ourselves at risk by even making in-person sessions available. Any applicant could be an officer of law enforcement waiting to stage a sting. Due to the nature of this risk, a sensible Professional Dominatrix will often ask for:

  • Booking deposits: to reserve the slot for you

  • Paid consultations: to protect Us & Our time

  • References: to learn important client notes

  • Full Name: to compare with your ID name

  • Age / Date of Birth: to compare with ID age

  • ID Photo: to compare with name and DOB

  • Email: to contact you with location details

  • Phone: to contact you if you’re late or lost

A professional session application / booking form should feel cohesive, thoughtful, detailed, and easy to understand. Some Dominatrices also run a background check, and Dommes in places where sex work is legalized or decriminalized may require other information, so methods will vary by individual Pro Domme and location. For these reasons and more, a Dominatrix may also need to gather more information for safe Fly Me to You (FMTY) travel sessions and arrangements.

2. Emotional Intelligence & Regulation Skills

Despite misconceptions of all Dominatrices as cold and soulless, We benefit far more from emotional intelligence and emotional regulation skills. Without basic human empathy or the ability to regulate Our own emotions and show restraint while maintaining control in intense situations, We would not be able to keep Ourselves, Our human pets, Our toys, Our space, or Our clients safe. Some Pro Dommes “mask” the skills until needed, and some mention them outright. They can be hard to surmise through online content, so these skills are often ones to look for once your session application has been accepted (assuming you did your homework, as recommended here).

3. Safety Planning & De-Escalation Skills

Another important aspect of keeping everyone safe is adequately planning for risks, informing relevant parties, and understanding how to handle a crisis situation without escalating it. A Professional Dominatrix should know what to do in a “worst case scenario,” or have access to human guidance for it, such as a mentor.

Depending on the session activities and client, a “worst case scenario” could look like anything from unintended blood loss to a mental health episode to death, so We need to be prepared for a variety of outcomes. You can look for these skills on a personal website, in a live consultation, or in the scene negotiation.

4. Professional Website & Online Presence

Although social media and many directories such as Dickie Virgin or Tryst certainly have their place, it’s best practice for a Professional Dominatrix to have Her own website as well. This makes it easier to verify Her identity and information from Her directory listings or social media. It also tells you She takes the business seriously enough to invest in a website for it. Another way to cross-reference identity and level of investment is by seeing if She has clips of real sessions available on fan or clip sites. These sites require extensive documentation from creators in order to upload.

Are Her content and profiles professionally presented, or are they chaotic and incoherent? Does She have professional photos or videos? Can you tell it’s the same person, even if in cosplay, based on the brand quality and aesthetic consistency? Is the tone of Her emails consistent with Her online presence?

5. Energetic Resonance & Alignment

This may sound “woo-woo” to some of you, but stay with Me. What I mean by energetic resonance and alignment can be boiled down to: “Will we vibe? Will we be compatible?”

Some people may prefer a Gentle Domme energy, and some may prefer the energy of a Strict Disciplinarian, as an example. Neither Domme energy is wrong, but it is possible to choose the wrong Pro Domme for you, if you choose one with whom you don’t resonate.

Another common slip-up is applying for a session with a Professional Dominatrix when your kinks or fetishes are incompatible. This may surprise some of you, but Pro Dommes have limits, too. My personal example is applicants who request pegging, assuming all Dommes love that, when it’s a limit of Mine. Those applications are ignored because My limits are clearly and plainly listed.

6. Clear Communication & Negotiation

If you don’t already have a relatively clear idea of what to expect from the session based on a Pro Domme’s personal website or other online presence, and there is no consultation or way to ask questions before the session, run! You shouldn’t feel like you’re going into the scene without critical context or safety information. Interactions with a Professional Dominatrix should feel clarifying rather than confusing, and consent should always be respected unless CNC is negotiated. Even then, a responsible Pro Domme will always use a safe word, signal, or gesture, so She can be prepared for the worst case scenario.

7. Technical Skills, Knowledge, & Experience

It goes without saying that you wouldn’t want anyone wielding anything they can’t control to a degree, so it’s paramount for a Professional Dominatrix to have some level of training with what She offers. Some Dominatrices offer practice sessions at a lower rate or tribute; just look for transparency around it being training.

Beyond technical skills, BDSM knowledge is key for safety, and it’s always expanding through innovation, so a Pro Dominatrix is always learning but should only ever offer what She feels comfortable doing. If you’re nervous and seeking someone seasoned: website contents, clip sites, testimonials, and reviews can help validate experience.

Flags, Floggers, & Feminization

Although these are only 7 green flags, there could be many more, especially depending on the individual, since some green flags can be subjective. You might be a masochist who sees a flogger-flinging sadist as a green flag. You may be obsessed with all things makeup, and feminization is your big green flag. Perhaps intellect, intuition, and creativity really do it for you. And who am I to disagree with any of that?

Comment below if you’re eager to learn what green flags a Professional Dominatrix looks for in Her potential clients. If you’re ready to book and show some RESPECT to a Pro Domme with all 7 green flags plus the examples above, and more, you know where to go.
